This event series in late 2024 took the idea of a scavenger hunt and flipped it on its head by encouraging people to get curious about the world around them and to decide what they are interested in and how they want to engage with their city. Giving only instructions on a halfway meeting point for a pop-up workout, and where we would start and finish, the prompt was to pay attention to natural space, small businesses, culture/arts/local history, and opportunities for movement.
Recap for the first session:
What a perfect Sunday morning! Across Somerville, we ran, appreciated nature and art, danced, skipped, did calisthenics, even helped carry groceries for neighbors, played basketball, rescued a kite from a tree, sampled some sweet treats (including getting some incredible @yafabakerycafe baklava for the challenge winners!) and delicious chai, got some acroyoga practice in and so much more!
With so many good memories and photos across all the groups, here’s just one photo from our halfway stop atop the hill at the Somerville public library before heading back 📖💪📸
Its amazing how strong we and our community can be when we stay open to the possibilities and appreciate what’s here around us in any given moment!
Stay tuned for a similar community challenge activity together with @wellnessblueprint heading south towards the Charles/Quinobequin on Sunday, November 3rd at 10am! 💪🦃

Recap for the second session
Your Run, Your City: Team Challenge Nov. 3rd collaboration with @wellnessblueprint !
💪🎨 This was the second time running a similar experience, and this time we went south from Somerville to the Quinobequin/Charles River at the Magazine Beach Public Gym. As a choose-your-own-adventure type of neighborhood exploration, our groups spent most of the time finding art to go with their exercise!
🖼️🏙️ While one group went through a scavenger hunt within the free-admission Harvard Art Museums, another group found as much public outdoor art as possible en route to our halfway meetup, where we met with another group who came to join for the halftime workout part so it could still fit their schedules.
🧬 Looking at this photo (a kind of movement-based artwork), it’s perfect how this climbing equipment looks like a DNA helix from this angle. We positively expressed our DNA, experiencing the benefits of getting moving, being together in groups, and having some adventure!
🏁 This event wrapped up the @sweetnessco Sweetness Moves Autumn Event series and we’ll share more recaps of the other experiences and plans looking ahead too!
